Balloon Dilatation

Balloon Dilatation

Balloon dilatation is a technique used to open narrowed airway passages. Balloon dilatation uses a catheter with an inflatable balloon to increase the diameter of the airway size. Narrowed airways result from numerous conditions including infections, lung cancer, tuberculosis, lymphoma, abnormal granulation tissue, or other diseases.

Reasons for the Procedure

  • Balloon Dilatation is used to open airways and allow adequate airflow to help the patient breath better and prevent any future obstruction.
  • Balloons used in this procedure come in a number of sizes.

Benefits of Balloon Dilatation

  • Airway passage dilatation can be controlled with the use of different size balloons.
  • Balloon Dilatation is a less traumatic procedure.
